September, the month of new beginnings, has come! Have you already made your list of good intentions? Autumn and its wonderful colours are getting closer and many happy moments are awaiting us! The autumn equinox will be on Friday 23 September.
In this month there are some events that we want to bring to your attention: on 7 September 1920, 102 years ago, an awful earthquake hit Barga and the Garfagnana area. In Barga there were two victims and a lot of damage. Some of the damage caused by that event is still visible today. You can find more information about this sad event here.
September is also the month in which we usually celebrate our bond with Scotland with a dedicated event. This year on Saturday 10 and Sunday 11 September the Barga Scottish Weekend took place. There were Scottish dances, typical products, tastings, pipers and much more!
On the third Sunday of September there will be the September quarantore [40 hours’ devotion] in Renaio! This event, which usually takes place before Easter, is organised every year in September according to the traditions of the mountain hamlet of Renaio.
