We can give Barga multiple definitions, but above of all Barga is culture: in 1986 the Barga Jazz Festival, a summer festival invented by Giancarlo Rizzardi and held at the “Roma” Cinema, took place. Some years later, in 1999, the BargaJazz Festival moved to the Differenti Theatre, in the old town centre. This festival is not just concerts, but an International Arrangement and Composition Contest, the Barga Jazz Contest. Other events and educational activities are also organised.
“The main purpose of the contest is to give young composers and arrangers the chance to let a professional orchestra play their works and to encourage musical production.”. This was and is still the objective of this brilliant Festival, that soon became known throughout Europe, hosting international musicians.
The Barga Jazz Contest is an event aimed atjazz music performers who want to make themselves known in every aspect; the best musician receives an award.
Thus, Barga is Jazz music’s soul and heart; it has been so since 1986 and we are sure that Barga Jazz will not disappoint us in 2022 either!
